OBLIQUE STRIPED

ADULT: Wingspan  22-25mm.  A plain looking moth in many ways with the light buff forewings bearing two brown crosslines and one dark spot. More often than not there is a small dark dash located at the wing tip, this mark does not reach the crosslines. The forewings are pointed, particularly so in the females. The hindwings are grey-buff. LARVAE: The larvae feed primarily on Lady's Bedstraw. Best seen during June and July and again in September. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light in small numbers and easily disturbed from thick grass during the day. HABITAT: Acid grassland, heathland, grassy rides in foresty plantations. FLIGHT PERIOD: Two generations, one in May and June, and a second in August. STATUS: Far from common and mainly found in southern Britain.
